There is little doubt that YouTube has become one of the most popular social media sites around
the world. Videos have become in many cases the primary way that music artists promote themselves and with YouTube providing a free platform it’s possible to expand your base of followers exponentially if you post videos that really engage your audience.
However, just like any other social media platform, there is a science and some would say an art as to when to post your videos for maximum exposure. By understanding which day and the right time, you can maximize the ability of your video to reach the widest possible audience.
What Days are the Best to Post?
The best days are the ones when the most people go to their YouTube pages which research shows to start on Thursday and runs to Sunday. It’s probably not all that surprising that most YouTube visits occur on these days when people are looking forward to the weekend and subsequently have more time on their hands.
This means that your new video will get a larger audience that will see it earlier than if you had chosen Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday when fewer people are watching. While it is true that your fans will know when you post a new video, it is less likely to be seen by a wider audience until it gets close to the weekend.
What Time is the Best?
The time in which you should post a video will vary depending on the day that you decide to put it up on YouTube. However, here is a general guideline;
– Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday: 2pm to 4pm
– Thursday & Friday: 12pm to 3pm
– Saturday & Sunday: 9am to 11am
All of these times occur slightly before television viewership climbs and reaches its primetime peak which is arguably not very surprising. By posting in the afternoon on Thursday or Friday, you are catching many people who may be thinking about heading home or are preparing for the weekend with your new video.
You’ll notice that the weekend times are earlier which again is not surprising as television viewership has yet to peak due to sporting events and the like. Plus, many people who may be heading out will do so in the late morning which means that your video may be something they will see before they hit the road.
For music artists and bands, releasing a new video during the recommended days and times will maximize your audience reception because it can be shared in a quicker fashion all because more people are on YouTube. In addition, more people will be ready to hear new songs or see you or your band at work in concert during these times.
You can plan a regular schedule of releases during the right days and times to create the most exposure. This will increase your chances of catching lightning in a bottle and having your work seen by the most number of people.
