When I was a kid Van Halen was one of my favorite bands in the world. As the ultimate adrenaline band, they seemed to have the perfect mix of players with an all-star cast which consisted of the Van Halen brothers and David Lee Roth, one of the most expressive frontmen ever to have performed on stage. Of course really big personalities often times clash and the band broke up and replaced Dave with Sammy Hagar for many successful years. But it never was the same, Sammy could never replace the character and flair of Diamond Dave. Fortunately for Dave, the tables turned once again in his favor and when Sammy left the door opened for him to again rejoin the band he helped turn into a world icon.
Whether you’re a musician or not, it’s hard not to acknowledge the courage and confidence of a guy like David Lee Roth. First of all the guy is 63 years old, a time when most people have given up to the graveyard of broken dreams. This is also the age where people stop expressing themselves, become more reserved, bury a lot of unexpressed emotions and get sick from the associated stress.
Yeah, Dave had a lot of success but that was in ins 20’s and 30’s. During the last 30 years of his life he was banished from the band he made famous and never had much success to speak of. But he didn’t lose his drive and his ability to fully express himself. He’s truly an inspiration to all people because we all struggle to express ourselves but deep down we all want to do a full karate kick on the dance floor and scream at the top of our lungs.
We are all tied to invisible shackles that crush our self-expression, but if you can break out, life becomes an explosion of joy and abundance. Enjoy this video and think about how you can let go of the shackles and set yourself free. Feel free to leave a comment below.
