How to Find Singing Gigs

Although it seems that every community has many venues for local talent to perform, finding singing gigs can be difficult unless yousinging gigs know how to take the right approach. The key to performing on a consistent basis is offering something that benefits the venues where you can play.

Networking

The most common way to find gigs starts with your local music association that promotes events in your area. It’s important that you get to know these people, make friends with them, and let them know that you and your group are available. Many bands start off with small singing gigs at a local café or club which leads to greater exposure.

Social Media

Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter are great ways to promote your band and finding good gigs. You’ll want to contact other bands and keep in touch. You may find that a band needs a supporting act which provides an opening for you. Just establish your band on social media, “like” other bands, and open a dialogue of support. You’ll find that once you become friends with them, getting gigs becomes a lot easier. Plus, you’ll need to do the same for bands where your gig needs some extra support.

Cold Call

Make a list of venues in your area and call them. You may find that they have an opening for your band in support of another group, a show that needs live performances, or simply pitching what you offer and hope for a gig in return. You will need to work on your pitch, but you can land several gigs by using this time-honored method.

Join Other Acts and Create a Show

It’s easier for venue operators such as nightclubs to book an evening’s worth of entertainment rather than just a single act. By joining forces with two or three other groups or bands, you increase your chances of nabbing singing gigs. This is especially true if you sing in a genre that may not be well supported in your community.

Creating a show is having each band perform one set so it covers a three-hour period. You will need to have a theme and title to your show, but otherwise you can perform the songs that suit your style and create a great experience for your audience.

Booking Agents

If you are serious about performing, then hiring a booking agent will help. A good booking agent will have great connections which means that you can start landing corporate gigs that pay a considerable amount of money. Plus, you will get even more exposure which increases the number of gigs that you can land. However, booking agents will have their favorites, so you must prove yourself before they start booking you frequently.  Also, most booking agents will only book you if they know you will draw 50 – 100 or more people consistently.  This may be down the road.

By being persistent in your efforts, singing gigs will start coming your way. You will need to prove yourself during this process, but that is how singers and bands improve their performance abilities. Once you get started, the gigs will start to come in and grow over time thanks to your efforts.
