The new year is upon us and its time to let go of the mistakes of the past. The most critical element in making this your biggest year in music is to first realize the #1 reason why people don’t get what they want. The #1 reason people don’t get what they want is that they don’t know what they want or are not clear enough. Ok so you probably know where I’m headed with this… Goals! If you haven’t already done this now is a good time.
Write Em Down
You could just mumble a few goals, but writing them down and looking at them consistently is a bigger commitment, which makes it real, its now a dream with a deadline.
Be Realistic
One of my biggest mistakes was always setting ridiculous goals like winning the Grammy or selling a million albums this year. While this could happen, more often than not it takes a lot of small victories to win the big one. So this year I set some realistic goals like sell 5,000 CD’s and 50,000 downloads, put out a new album and build my email list to over 10,000 people.
Categorize You Goals
Social Media: YouTube 15,000, Twitter: 12,000, Facebook 8,000
Email: over 10,000 or over 1,000
Songs: 8 new songs this year
Videos: 6 new videos this year
Live Performance: Play out 30 times this year
Now write down a plan of action. For instance, I’m going to write a new song once per month, one video every other month. Remember, your content is the most valuable thing you have. Build it and if its good and you share it, it will naturally spread and your followers will increase.
Right now write out a content creation plan day by day. Specifically, how many hours per day will you spend on writing new songs and making new videos and what hours of the day will you do that? Now make a commitment, come hell or high water, no matter what you are going to stick to that plan. Do it!
Let me know how your progress is 6 months down the road. This is crucial as you will need to check your progress and adjust if things are not working.
Best of luck, Chad – CEO Music Launch Pad
